LTC Michael A. Baumann (USA, Ret.) commanded 1-21 Field
Artillery in 5th Brigade Combat Team of First Cavalry Division
operating out of FOB Falcon in SW Baghdad from March 2004-March
2005. While in Iraq, his unit oversaw efforts to stabilize and
secure the Al Saidiyah neighborhood in the Al Rashid District of
Baghdad. He served twenty years as a Regular Army officer in the
U.S. Army holding numerous command and staff positions in field
artillery and infantry units. He is a 1985 Distinguished Military
Graduate of the University of Minnesota Army ROTC program. He holds
a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a
M.S. in Education Administration from Texas A&M
University.
Baumann retired from the Army in October 2005. Today he works as
the Business and Financial Affairs Controller for Saint Paul Public
Schools and resides in Lakeville, Minnesota. Baumann is the
Minnesota State Captain for Vets for Freedom and he is the author
of a new book, ADJUST FIRE: Transforming to Win in Iraq.
