(Washington DC) - Pete Hegseth, Executive Director of Vets
for Freedom-America's largest pro-victory Iraq and Afghanistan
veterans' organization-released the following statement in response
to President Obama accepting General Stanley McChrystal's
resignation and replacing him with General David Petraeus:
"While I don't believe General McChrystal's actions merited
removal, I respect the decision of the Commander-in-Chief to
replace him with General Petraeus. Ultimately, the President must
do whatever is necessary to ensure unity of effort toward the
mission in Afghanistan, and if putting Petraeus in charge does
that, then it's the right move.
"That said, changing the military leadership in Afghanistan
doesn't address larger, looming issues regarding the U.S. mission
in Afghanistan. The President needs to ensure the civilian effort
in Afghanistan is fully invested in the fight, and also needs to
remove the looming troop withdrawal deadline hanging around our
soldiers' necks. The President must take command of this war, and
truly dedicate himself to winning the fight. His speech today was
thoughtful, but decisive actions will speak louder.
"We are at a critical moment in the Afghanistan war, and cannot
afford to fight ourselves while trying to defeat America's enemies.
I trust General Petraeus-like General McChrystal-will provide sound
leadership and advice to the White House; now the President needs
to make sure he gives the war-fighters everything they need-in
troops, time, and resources-to get the job done."

aisle who stand behind our generation of warriors, and who put
long-term national security before short-term partisan political
gain. Vets for Freedom is the largest pro-victory Iraq and
