Vets for Freedom is
proud to announce its support of Charlie Summers for United States
Congress in the First District of Maine. In the uncertain days
after September 11, 2001, Charlie served with distinction in the
Pentagon as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve, supporting the U.S.
fight against terrorism through work with the Secretary of the
Navy. Duty called once again in May 2007 when he left Maine for
Baghdad, serving nine months on Active Duty as a Lieutenant
Commander with the Multi-National Forces in Iraq, as part of the
Communications Division of the Strategic Effects Directorate. Vets
for Freedom applauds Charlie's strong commitment to continue his
public service in the United States Congress.
"As a fellow veteran, I am truly humbled to speak on behalf of
more than 27,000 members of Vets for Freedom in offering
our strong endorsement of Charlie Summers for United States
Congress," said Vets for Freedom Chairman, Pete Hegseth.
"Serving in combat demands an extremely unique dedication to
excellence, a true understanding of leadership and an unselfish
willingness to serve your country - Charlie understands this
firsthand, and it's that same perspective that he will use to
approach his job as a Congressman. He knows that the fight we are
currently undertaking in Iraq and Afghanistan is vital to our
success in the global effort against Islamic extremism."
Hegseth continued, "As the brave men and women who wear our
nation's uniform continue to serve in harm's way, it is important
that politics end at the water's edge. Charlie's the kind of leader
who will not let the Washington game playing stand in his way as he
fights for the protection of both our national security and our
troops. I am proud to offer the strong endorsement of Vets for
Freedom."
